This piece was heavily influenced by Kehinde Wiley, a New York based portraitist who recently unveiled his official Presidential portrait of Barack Obama. We have adored his work for years, and wanted to create a tribute with a bit of a comedic spin. This absolutely joyful black and white photo which we found of Sammy, served as the perfect comic relief to pair with the quite traditional vine and flower pattern typically found in textiles and wallpaper.
